From Consultation to Confidence

Your First Treatment: What To Expect When Injecting!

Is it your first time getting injections at Dr. Charlie Seltzer's Lifestyle Medicine? Here's what you need to know about your first treatment.

Please plan to arrive at the office five minutes prior to your first appointment to complete a brief health history and good faith exam. Following this, you will be seated in our treatment room, where a nurse will complete a comprehensive consultation with you.

During the consultation, you will have the opportunity to discuss your personal goals for the appointment, and your nurse will work with you to determine the most suitable treatment plan. We will take "before photos," and you will be able to address any questions you have.

Depending on your treatment plan, you will be out of the office in less than an hour!

Let's talk filler vs tox.

Everyone's treatment goals differ, so we want to ensure we are all on the same page to promote the best outcome!

Filler is an injectable get that is commonly comprised of hyaluronic acid. For our filler patients, you should expect to come in an additional 30 minutes before your treatment time so that we can apply topical numbing to the area. The filler we use here also has lidocaine in the formula, so the treatment is as comfortable as possible.

Filler patients will experience immediate results, as filler works to enhance facial volume and shape. On the day of your appointment, you will experience some swelling that will progressively resolve each day. We recommend planning your filler treatments 2 months before any major event. The effects of filler can last up to a year!

There are many different types of neuromodulators, the most well-known being Botox. Often, people will use "Botox" as an umbrella term for other kinds of neuromodulators, as all types behave similarly. They work by temporarily relaxing facial muscles to decrease facial movement.

At our office, we use a neuromodulator called Jeuveau. Jeuveau is the newest competitor to Botox and was formulated to primarily focus on the cosmetic market.

Though you may feel a tiny pinch when the neuromodulator is injected, most patients say it's a quick and painless treatment overall.

The onset of Jeuveau is comparable to Botox, around 3-7 days, so you will leave the office looking similar to when you arrived, with maybe some slight redness/irritation. Depending on the dosage of the neuromodulator injected, results typically last about 3-4 months. After that, it will be time to book your next appointment!

For all injectable treatments, we recommend avoiding alcohol or NSAIDs 24 hours before your appointment. After your treatment, please avoid exercise, extreme temperatures, pressure on the treated area, and makeup for 24 hours.
